MSc Lean Operations

The MSc in Lean Operations at Cardiff University was a two-year, part-time postgraduate programme designed primarily for practising operations managers and professionals aiming for senior roles in operations-based organisations. It was delivered by Cardiff Business School in collaboration with the Lean Enterprise Research Centre (LERC), a globally recognised hub for lean thinking research and education. This was the world’s first Lean-focused master’s programme, reflecting Cardiff’s leadership in lean methodology development

Led strategic expansion of 27 European sites, aligning operations with BD’s medical and life sciences. Coached and empowered Lean leaders to drive high-value process improvements and embed customer-focused excellence. • Devised and developed the operational excellence strategy supporting the divisional strategic plans. • Assisted with the design of the strategic roadmap into “end-to-end flow” from sales to customer delivery. • Prepared budgets focusing on cost savings with a 5% C2W requirement of the cost of goods sold ($319M). • Created a protocol for deploying divisional strategies and planning subsequent actions (Hoshin Kanri). • Served as a coach and a motivator for the lean management team at the site, guiding them on the system-based plan-do-check act approach (A3 thinking). • Oversaw the management and support of European capital spending, totalling $375-400M.
